Hope // Nemi One-Shot
Inspiration from the songs "Halo" by Beyonce and "The Only Exception" by Paramore.
The rain poured down hard late at night in L.A. Somewhere on the 'wrong side of town', was a boy. He lay on the cold, hard ground; beaten and barely breathing. The moon was covered by the dark clouds above, casting only darkness below. The harsh weather and his current condition left life a stuggle to keep. Surely, if he remained throughout the night, his life would be no more. The possibilty of broken bones from when the boys had hit him was only one of the problems; but the fact that every minute he lost more blood from the wound in his chest where he was stabbed, was the major. He couldn't move, he couldn't sceam; only think. His thoughts were far from positive at the moment. He knew there was no way of survival for him and that he was going to die slowly, in pain. He started to pray in his head for God to just take him now. He knew praying for a miracle was useless, because he would never get one. Miracles only happened in fairytales. His thoughts started to change as he heard footsteps near by him. At first, he wasn't sure whether to be hopeful it was help, or scared he might just get hurt even more. As the footsteps got closer, he could hear two girls talking. One was going on about how 'great this party is going to be', while the other just kept saying, 'that's cool'. He didn't know where the girls were, but he knew he'd be hiden perfectly in the shadows of the alley he was laying in. The two girls would probably pass right by him. He heard a snap close by him and then one of the girls let out a small shriek. "Oh, my, gosh."The girl said. It was the first one he had heard. "My heel just broke." The other girl let out a sigh.
"I told you not to wear heels if it was raining." She said.
"They went best with the outfit. This heel is useless now. Will you walk into the creepy alley with me to throw it away in one of those big dumpsters?" He heard their footsteps on the gravel now, coming towards his direction. "Ugh, I wish my cell phone light was brighter."
"Mine is. I'll get out mine." The voice sounded as though it was right next to him and he knew he was right, since the next thing he heard was a scream. "Selena, Come here."
"What?"
"I think he's dead or something."
"Check for a pulse. I'm not touching him if there's a chance he's dead. That's gross." He felt the girl's gentle hand on his neck and then felt her breath on his lips.
"He's still alive and breathing." Her hand then moved down to his own; the one applying as much pressure as possible that he could-with what strength he had left-to where he had been stabbed. She moved his hand and then instantly pulled hers away. "Selena, call 911, now. He's bleeding."
"What?"
"Selena, just do it. Now." He could hear the beep of buttons being pressed on her phone as she dialed the number. The girl next to him, whose name he was still unsure of, placed her hand on his forehead. She pushed a few of his curls back and brought her hand down to his cheek. "What happened to him? It looks like somebody hurt him. How could somebody hurt a guy who looks so innocent and handsome." Hearing what the girl had said made him smile inside. She didn't even know who he was and she was willing to help him. He had a feeling she was a very giving person. He wanted to see the face the angelic voice belonged to, but opening his eyes was a struggle. It required energy and strength; both of which he had very little of.
"Demi, I don't know where we are. How are we supposed to get an ambulence if we don't know our location?" Demi. That was her name.
"Go to the street and try to find a sign that says what street we're on. Hurry, too." He felt her hand on his own again, moving his away. She put her hand where he had been stabbed and put some pressure on it. She was trying to apply pressure to help the bleeding. She let out a sigh and he heard movement in the gravel. She must've been getting comfortable. "I'll do whatever I can to help you. I know you can't hear me right now, but I will." He could hear though, but he couldn't tell her that. He tried to tell his hand to move; tried to find the strength to. He felt his fingers twitch a little. It wasn't much, but it was something. She didn't notice it though. He tried harder and moved his hand a little. He moved it across his body until he touched her hand. He heard her jump back a little and then he felt her other hand on his cheek. He moved his hand and placed it on top of hers. "You're awake. I though you were, unconsious or something. Selena!" Footsteps came down the alley way and stopped next to him.
"Don't worry, they're on their way."
"Sel, he's awake." He heard movement in the gravel once more as Selena sat down.
"So, did he talk to you or something? How about a name; what's his name?" Demi sighed.
"He didn't say anything, he moved his hand."
"You do know that people in comas do that sometimes."
"No, he touched me. He can hear us, can't you?" He felt a hand in his hair as Demi started to play with some of his curls. One of Demi's hand was still on his wound, his hand on top. He squeezed her hand a little, to let her know he was listening. "I knew you could." He could hear a slight smile in her voice, making him smile on the inside. Maybe there really was hope he'd survive afterall. That hope had a name, too. Which was Demi.

Darkness. Complete darkness. That's all I could see. A quiet low beep in the background and I felt pain. Not as much pain as before, but still pain. Had I died? I felt a touch on my hand, like another hand. As I slowly woke up, I opened my eyes. They were blurry as the tried to focus with the scene and light around them. I looked around me to see the key features that made me realize where I was. I looked next to me and saw a girl. A beautiful one at that. Her hair looked like a mess, but who knows how long she has been here with me. She had her hand placed on mine, as she sat in a chair next to my bed. Her head was resting on my bed as she quietly slept. I smiled to myself as I thought about her. It must be the girl who had saved me; Demi. I looked towards my door as I heard somebody walk in, to find a nurse with a smile on her face. "Well, looks like you finally woke up." I gave her a small smile as I nodded my head. "I see Ms.Lovato is still sleeping. That girl's been here for the past 2 days, refusing to leave your side. You two are such a cute couple. Must really be in love too." I was about to tell the nurse I technically didn't even know her, but I found myself unable to speak. What did it matter anyway, I'd never see the nurse again after I was out of here. After checking a few things, she left, leaving me alone with Demi. I sat for awhile just staring at her sleeping so peacefully. I felt her grip on my hand loosen and she started to move a little. I layed back and closed my eyes, making it seem like I was still sleeping. I heard her let out a sigh and grip back onto my hand.
"Two days."She said. "I can't believe he still hasn't woken up. What happened to you?" I felt her hand on my face; her touch so gentle. A simple touch from her made the pain go away; made me feel like somebody actually cared for me. My hand being held by hers made my heart beat increase, just having her with me. I moved my hand so that my fingers intertwined with hers. She moved her hand from my cheek. "Are you awake?" I slowly opened my eyes, meeting hers. How amazing those eyes of hers are. A smile started to appear on her face. A huge smile, one that made her look gorgeous. "You're awake!"
"Thank you." I said to her. "I had no hope or faith at all I'd even live. Then you came and here I am now. You're the miracle God brought me."
"I guess it's a good thing Selena broke her heel." She laughed a little, making me smile. It was one of those laughs that did that to you; you can't help but smile or laugh along.
"Are you the only one who's been here?" She nodded her head. Nobody else at all? "Oh."
"Were you expecting somebody to be here?"
"No, I'm used to it. My parents are always working. They've never made it any events I had as a kid. A baseball game, school show, even birthday parties. Why would they come now when their own son is in a hospital?"
"I'm sure they love you."
"I'm sure they do too. It's probably the fact that they love me, that when I told them they were horrible parents, they threw me out of the house. They couldn't try to listen to me or make it work. They told me to leave and not come back until I decide to be thankful of everything they'd ever given me. Thrown out while it's pouring rain outside to find somewhere to stay. I was going to stay with one of my friends who has a mother who loves me. She's always been more a mother to me than my own. They don't really have much money, so they don't own the best house. But, she's always willing to let me stay. That's where I was going when I ran into some kids I knew from school. They couldn't just let me keep walking, they had to stop me. Then they decided it would be fun to beat me up, knowing I'm not the type to fight back. When one went too far and stabbed me with his pocket knife, they all laughed about it and left me alone to die. Now I'm here and my parents couldn't take the time to come see me. I'm sure they love me, though."
"Wow, I'm-"
"Don't say you're sorry. I'm tired of sympathy. Just, stay here with me, please. That's all I want." She gave me a smile.
"I promise I'll stay here with you until you're out." I just stared at her, which made me smile. She was so beautiful. I moved over in my bed and sat up.
"Sit with me. Let's learn about eachother more." She got up on the bed next to me and I felt nervous with her so close to me. Our hands were still in eachothers and I let go, putting that hand around her. I grabbed her hand with my other and she smiled at me. "How about a name. I know yours. Mine's Nick."
"It's nice to meet you Nick." She laughed a little. "I'm seventeen. How old are you?"
"Seventeen, too. So you like to party?"
"Well, kinda. Selena's more of the party person and I just tag along. I don't like all the drinking that's involved." I couldn't help but smile. She was just so perfect, how did I manage to have her come into my life. She noticed me just smiling and smiled too. The next hour was spent just talking and getting to know who we really were. She told me about her family and friends, her favorite things, and even some things about her childhood. I sat and listened the whole time, telling her something of my own a few times. I found myself slowly falling for her each minute I spent with her. She was amazing and the best thing that has every happened to my life.
"Have you ever fallen in love?" The question came out before I could think about it and I instantly regretted it.
"Well, there was a boy once a few years back. We were together for over a year and I thought I really loved him. I told him I loved him a lot, but I wanted to wait. He got mad because if I really loved him, I wouldn't wait. So, he made me. I broke up with him afterwards of course, but he hurt me. It's going to be hard to let somebody in after that." I was going to be the one to fix that. Show her that it was one guy who was an idiot. Did the stupidest thing ever, which is losing Demi. I gripped her hand tighter in mine.
"I'm sorry the first time you thought you found love that happened. He was obvioulsy and idiot and didn't love you like you did him. You deserve way better than that jerk. The right guy for you needs to be one that will always be there. He'll never pressure you into anything and will always respect you. One who will never think to run to you when you're crying so he can hold you tight and let you know everything will be okay. That's the perfect guy for you and he's out there, believe me." She turned to me and stared into my eyes.
"I think your right. He is out there for me. Maybe I'll find him sometime soon." She gave me a smile, which I returned. I moved closer to her and kissed her cheek. She blushed a little and I left my face close to hers.
"You're beautiful, Demi. Anybody who can't see that is blind to the light you radiate. You're amazing, never foget that. I'm glad you've been put into my life. You show me the love I've been missing and wanting for so many years. Just being here for me when nobody else was. You show me hope that everything in my life will turn out better. My own personal miracle. Don't promise you'll stay here for now, promise you'll stay forever." She smiled at me.
"I promise I'll always be here, Nick."I brought my lips to hers, giving her a gentle kiss. I felt her arms wrap around my neck as I brought mine around her waist. I pulled away with a smile. I layed down on the bed, still with her in my arms. She placed her head on my chest as I reached over and grabbed the remote. I gave it to her, letting her choose what we watch. She looked at me, giving me a smile. I gave her a quick peck on the lips, before I then kissed her head. "Thank you, again, for being in my life Demi."
"No problem, Nick." We looked at eachother and started laughing for no reason. Having her in my life forever? Perfect.
