Love Makes Mistakes (Season Three of "Stop The World")
Chapter One
Nick's POV:
"Demi, what are you doing here?" I asked her, shocked. It'd been 3 months since the last time I saw her; I never thought I would see her again.
"I heard about your side project and thought I'd come see how it was. You were amazing out there." I smiled a little to myself.
"What did you think about the song?"
"All of them were fantas-"
"No, just the one song." She gave me a confused look for a second and then smiled.
"You mean 'Stay'?" I nodded my head. "It's beautiful, Nick."
"Just like you."
"Nick..."
"It's for you." Her eyes widened a little.
"What?"
"I wrote the song for you." She looked down and bit her lip.
"Nick, I-"
"Demi," I said, rushing over to her. "you're finally back and I'm not letting you go this time. You can't tell me that these past months haven't been the worst time of your life." I lifted her face up to meet mine, laying my hand on her cheek. "I've missed you so much, Demi. Everyday spent without you, it was like my heart broke a little more. Now it can finally be healed. I've never stopped loving you and I know you love me too. Tell me you feel the same way. Tell me you love me too."
"I can't say that, Nick, I'm only here to-" before she could continue talking, I brought my lips to her, kissing her passionately. Put all the passion that I had when I sang that song for her; all the passion of my love that I felt for her. I pulled away and left my forehead resting against hers."I love you Demi." I smiled at her. "Forever." She backed away from me and turned around.
"Nick, I didn't come here to get back with you." I felt my smile slowly fade.
"But, you're back. We love eachother, Demi. When two people love eachother, aren't they supposed to be together?!" She finally turned and looked at me.
"I don't love you like that anymore, Nicholas! I'm sorry, but I don't."
"You can't tell me that kiss meant nothing!" I grabbed Demi's hands and brought her closer to me. "You can't tell me that you don't love me, I know you do. Demi, please." She didn't say a word, so I released her hands.
"I'm sorry, Nick." I closed my eyes tight, trying to conceal the pain I was feeling. She took a step closer to me and set her hand on my chest. I instantly felt the sparks fly through me, making me smile a little. She pressed her lips to my cheek and kissed me. "I want to be friends, nothing more." I nodded my head a little and opened my eyes to find her face still close to me. Her eyes stared into mine and I could feel her breath on my lips. I wanted so bad just to tackle her and kiss those lips. Friends is what she wanted though and I'd go with that. I wanted her to be happy; even if it broke my heart.

Chapter Two
Nick's POV:
When I got onto the bus that night, heading to the last city on tour, I couldn't stop thinking about Demi. A smile was plastered on my face as I sat there, not leaving my face. I sat down on a couch in the lounge area and just stared off into space thinking about her. I hadn't seen her in so long, it was nice to finally see her again. Although she said she wanted to be just friends, I knew she still liked me. No, loved me. She loved me like I loved her. I just had to show her how amazing it was to be in a relationship with her. I'd take it slow, trying to get to what we had. After the last show tomorrow night, I'd focus everything on her. I know she wants to be friends, but I can't settle for just that. I love her and I want her to know that.
I decided maybe I should get a little bit of sleep on the bus, knowing we wouldn't be at the hotel for another few hours. My mind started thinking about Demi again and I knew I wouldn't be able to fall asleep just yet. I put a random movie on and started to watch it, trying to get my mind off of her. She looked so much more beautiful than I remembered her. I'd seen her a few times on tv or on magazines, but nothing was like seeing her with my own eyes. Having her soft lips on mine again made my heart beat increase like crazy. I missed her so much. Even if she only wanted to be friends, just having her back in my life was amazing. I let out a sigh and tried to focus on whatever movie I had put in. I watched the previews start to play through and couldn't help but think back to Demi. She was the only thing on my mind. I loved her, of course I would think about her. I grabbed a notepad and pen and put it next to me just incase I got lyrics in my head. I got comfortable on the couch, laying down on it. I stared at the tv for a little, before slowly letting my eyelids close.
The first thing my mind pictured in the darkenss, was a faint light. I looked up to see it was the moonlight coming down through the clouds. I looked over to my right to see Demi sitting there, staring back at me smiling. I smiled back and thought about all the memories we had once shared before we broke up. Everything was perfect, just like the moment we seemed to be in where we were just staring; smiling. Then everything seemed to change. I thought back to where we fought; back to the moment where she told me she didn't love me the way I loved her. Another light was added into the darkness and I looked forward, in the direction it was. Everything seemed to go slow as the car I was driving collided with another and Demi's scream filled my ears. I jolted up from laying down instantly, looking around the lounge area. I was dreaming again. Everytime I thought about her, my dreams always led to the crash. I'll never be able to forgive myself for it. I stood up and walked around a little, trying to get my thoughts back to normal. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and looked at the time. 12:23. I let out a sigh and noticed I had a new message from Selena, saying 'good job tonight! the show rocked! :)'. I set my phone down and took a seat back on the couch. I ran my hand through my hair, thinking about how my friendship with Selena is what ruined Demi and I. I just had to hang out with her, making Demi think I was cheating on her. I don't know if I'll ever be able to make it right with her.
I grabbed the pen and notepad I had got earlier and set it in my lap. I started scribbling down some lyrics and then re-read them. They weren't good enough. I ripped the paper off and crumpled it, throwing it on the floor. I tried again, only finding the result not what I wanted. I threw the notepad and pen on the ground too and ran both my hands through my hair. I let everything start to sink and I felt my throat getting dry. I walked to my bunk and grabbed a photo in its frame from by my pillow. I looked at it smiling, remembering the time it was taken. Demi and I smiling, jumping in puddles while it was pouring. It was from a few years ago when we were on the Burning Up tour. We were stopped somewhere to get something to eat and it was pouring rain. Demi had told me that she loved running in the rain as a child. She somehow convinced me to go outside with her and we spent 10 minutes in the rain, acting like six year olds. I smiled at the memory from so far back, before I even realized how amazing she was. That was before I realized how I felt for her; that I loved her.
I felt my throat getting even more dry and I found it hard to swallow. I traced my finger over Demi in the picture and saw a drop of water hit the glass of the frame. I blinked a little and realized it wasn't water, but tears. I sat in my bunk, letting the tears fall silently. I thought of words in my head and said them aloud. "They say you know when you really found the one." It came out as a raspy whisper from the dryness of my throat. I took in a breath and when I exhaled, it came out rough and shakey. I found myself starting to sob and I placed my head in my heads, trying to make it quieter. My bandmates had gone to bed as soon as they got on. I didn't want to wake them, especially not right now. I couldn't talk about this, only music could help me.
"B-but it's hard to tell with...", I tried to think of something more. "with the damage...that's been done." I stood up and grabbed the notepad off the floor and started writing what I had down. "But I'd like to say that's it your fault, but I know better." I smiled a little and wrote anything else that came to my mind. I grabbed one of my guitars when I was done and started working on a tune for it. After a few hours, the bus stopped and one of the tour managers came on to find me awake, playing the guitar.
"We just arrived at the hotel. We're getting the rooms and everything together and then you can go to yours." He said to me. I nodded my head and continued working on the melody for the song. I was the last to get into my hotel room, due to the fact I didn't want to stop on the song. I finally got convinced to pull away from it for just a few minutes so I would get off the bus. As soon as I got to my room, I went back to the song. After another half hour, I finally felt as though it was finished. I sang it aloud, playing it with the guitar. I smiled when was done and finally put my guitar down. I looked at my bed and finally got myself to climb into it. I pulled the covers up tight around me and closed my eyes tight. The lack of sleep finally hit me and I slowly drifted off into the world of sleep. I remembered the nights when we had first started dating, where we'd fall asleep with me holding Demi in my arms. I got that feeling in my throat again and tried to ignore it. I thought of more memories and decided to let any tears that were forming fall. I let all the tears I'd been holding back for all those months fall. The tears finally stopped when I gradually fell asleep.

Chapter Three
Nick's POV:
After a practically sleepless night, I decided maybe I could sleep on the bus before we arrived at the venue. I shifted uncomfortably as the bus shook from the bumpy roads. I finally gave up on sleep and sat up in my bunk. I sat up a bit too quickly because I hit my head. "Ow," I mumbled climbing out of it. As I rubbed the back of my head, i made my way to the small sofa that was placed in the back of the bus just for me. I remember writing many songs here in this one area. I can't believe where they've all gotten me today. I'm Nick Jonas, the guy that has everything I've ever wanted but yet I don't. I don't have my love here in my arms. I'm aching for her touch. I don't want to admit that I've lost her, but in a way I have.
As I sat on the oversized chair, I placed my head back and looked out of the window as heavy rain shattered upon the windows. I was starting to drift off to sleep as Demi's beautiful face appeared, she looked even more amazing, as I sat there I wanted to remember everything about her, her smile, her laugh, her touch. I smiled to myself even being able to remember what she was wearing when we first met. One of the best days of my life. Meeting the girl that would forever hold my heart in her hands.
-------
"That's Joe, Nick, and I'm Kevin." he said, reaching his hand out to shake the hand of a girl who had just announced herself as Demi. After she shook Joe's hand, I removed mine from my pocket to shake hers also. I gave her a smile with it, although it was something rare for me. Many say it's because I'm too shy or serious, but deep down I've always been insecure with opening up to strangers. Demi smiled back with a huge smile that seemed to eat up her whole face. It was warm and comforting, making you want to smile also. I let go of her hand after seeing the looks I was getting from Joe and Kevin. I looked down embarrassed, not even realizing how long I had her hand.
"So," she said, "let's get to know eachother since we'll be working with eachother for a few months. Don't worry, I'll only be like an obsessed fan for a week." She said with a wink before laughing an adorable laugh. I smiled again and looked down, hoping nobody would notice. I had a feeling we'd have an amazing friendship one day. Joe put his arm around her shoulder and looked at her.
"Demetria," he said, "let's get some pudding." She laughed a little and looked at him.
"Joseph, how shall we do that?" Joe turned them around to face Kevin.
"Kevineph, how-"
"No," Kevin said.
"Kevinolas?" Demi laughed more and I shook my head at Joe. It's amazing how different brothers' personalities can be.
"Still no."
"Fine, Paul. We'll find pudding on our own."
"Of the vanilla variety?" Demi asked.
"Yes!" Joe exclaimed. Kevin laughed at them before walking off to talk to some other people, leaving me to stand with Joe and Demi awkwardly. "C'mon, let's really find something to eat." Joe said with a smile. Demi nodded her head and started to walk away with him. Demi came back a second later and stood in front of me.
"Are you coming, Nick?" I gave her a smile and nodded my head, following her in the direction they had just went. "You have a nice smile." She said while we were walking. A looked away blushing, before looking back at her.
"You do too." I said. "It practically eats off your face." She laughed a little, which caused her to smile. "Oh, no, it's gonna eat your face again." She tried to stop smiling, but laughed more, which caused her to keep smiling. She finally looked away, not being able to take it. She finally looked back at me with my totally serious face. She shook her head and smiled a little. "What?"
"You're just so hard to read, Nicholas Jerry Jonas."
"Full name and we just met? Stalker!" She hit my arm playfully and we both smiled.
"Who doesn't know your name?" I sat for a second, making it look like I was thinking.
"Haters?"
"Some."
"Come on guys!" Joe yelled, "You two are such slowpokes!" Demi looked at me with a smile.
"I'll beat you to him."
"You're on."
"Ready, set," she kissed my cheek real quick and then started to run as she yelled "go!". I stood for a second, before finally catching up to her. We'll definately have an amazing friendship one day.

Chapter Four
Nick's POV:
I awoke from my amazing dream as I felt the bus stop. I heard someone's voice shout at me that we had arrived at the venue. I grabbed a jacket before walking off the bus into the rain still pouring down. Does it really have to rain in California? I noticed a certain girl with long black hair, holding an umbrella. I smiled when I saw her, getting a smile in return. "Hey, Nick." She said to me as I got closer. I pulled her into a hug, smiling.
"It's so good to see you again, Sel." I told her.
"It's good to see you too." We let go of eachother and walked into the venue together. "So, it's the last show. You pumped?"
"Yeah, I am." She put her hand on my arm and stopped us.
"Nicholas." I smiled at her and kept walking, just to be stopped again. "Tell me what's wrong."
"Nothing is wrong. It's the last show of my tour. I'm more than excited right now. I'm going to play a fantastic show and then go home."
"Mhm. Something's on your mind though. Tell me."
"No, there isn-"
"Tell me. Please." She gave me a pouty face and I shook my head as I walked on. "Nicholas Jerry Jonas, you tell me now." I laughed at her.
"Are you my mother, now?" She glared at me and caught up, clinging onto my arm as we walked.
"You're a jerk."
"I know." I gave her a wink and she laughed. She rested her head on my shoulder, so I rested mine are her head.
"Is anybody else coming tonight?"
"I know my brothers are. Not sure about everyone else."
"Is Demi coming again?" I closed my eyes and smiled thinking about her.
"I'm not-"
"Watch out." Selena pulled me over through the door way we were walking through, making me miss the wall. "That's why you walk with your eyes open, silly." When she smiled at me, I returned only a small smile. "It's Demi, isn't it?"
"No, why would you think that. Demi and I are talking again and friends. There's no problem between us."
"So, you're totally over her and are okay with being friends?" I nodded my head. "That means you're perfectly fine with her dating Adam again?"
"She's dating who?! Dating means hugging and cuddling and holding hands and-and kissing!" I moved my voice down to a whisper, so only Selena could hear. "I will beat him up again if he tries touching her." Selena started laughing at me.
"I was just joking. They only went on one date last week." I rolled my eyes and then looked at her.
"Really?"
"Yes, really. I'm not joking about that one. She called and told me all about it. He took her out to a movie of her choice and then gave her a sweet goodnight kiss when he dropped her off." I stopped walking and stared at her.
"That has to be a joke." She shook her head 'no' at me. "I am totally fine with whatever choices she decides to make. We're no longer together. She doesn't love me anymore. I'm totally over her."
"You are such a liar, Nicholas Jerry Jonas."
"And, you are an amazing friend Selena Marie Gomez." I gave her a kiss on the head and she squeezed me in a tight side-hug. Life would be difficult without friends.

Chapter Five
Nick's POV:
A smile appeared on my face as I walked back oustide, when my eyes met with her beautiful shade of blues. Security had told me a girl was trying to get in and said she was a friend of mine, so I came to settle it. She was in fact a friend, one that became very close to me recently. She helped me slowly get over my heartbreak from Demi, but not fully over her. I couldn't keep my true identity from her for long, so she soon found at just who Nick Jonas was. That never changed a thing, though, because she still treated me the same. Looking back on it, I find it odd how the day I lost my whole life, a friend was gained. I waved my hand slightly and she waved back, a smile now on both of our faces. I brought her into a hug as soon as I got to her, feeling her embrace around me. "It's so good to see you, Rachel." I said to her.
"Good to see you too, Nick." After letting go of the hug, I put my hand on her back and led her inside with me. We went back to where I had left Selena and I introduced the two of them.
"So, are you both going to stay for the show tonight?"
"Out off all the shows I've been to so far," Selena started to say, "why would I miss the final one? It's going to be awesome!" I smiled at Selena and gave her a high-five.
"Have you ever been to a concert, Rachel?" She shook her head 'no' and continued to just stand there quiet. "I think you're making her shy, Selena."
"Right, blame it all on me, Nick. Maybe it's the fact she's backstage right now at a Nick Jonas concert?"
"I believe that would be a tuche moment."
"I'm not sure if you're right." We both stared at eachother and then busted out laughing. Rachel just stood there, looking around at everything backstage. "Hey, Rachel," she turned and looked at Selena, curious what she was going to say, "do you wanna go see what it's like from the stage?" I saw a smile reach her face and she nodded her head vigourously, just like a little kid. We both led her to the stage enterance and her face lit up as she walked onto it.
"This is amazing," she finally said after standing there for a few minutes. "I can't imagine what it must be like for you to stand up here in front of all those people. It must be quite an adrenaline rush."
"Sharing your music and story with all of them," I told her, "that's the best part of it. Seeing all those people out there and knowing that you're the one reason that they're standing there, it doesn't seem real."
"I bet you're going to do fantastic up here tonight," Rachel said to me with a smile, wrapping her arms around mine and leaning her head on my shoulder, "and I'll be right there," she pointed out into the chairs, her finger set at a certain spot a few rows away from the stage. "cheering and screaming for you all night long." I looked down at her with a smile now on my face, as I pushed some of her slightly curled, blonde hair from her face behind her ear, uncovering her eyes for me to see. Demi's eyes were a perfect shade of dark brown, but Rachel's eyes were a light blue almost like that of a calm sea, that sometimes were so light they looked grey.
"When I'm on stage tonight, I'll be sure to look right there," I pointed to the same spot she did, "and sing out to you." She blushed slightly, the pink on her pale cheeks looking like blush, and moved her head from my shoulder. Looking down made her hair fall back into her face, which then made her look as cute as ever. I put my finger under her chin, pulling her face back up for me to look at. Pushing all the hair back from covering her, I put a smile on my face. "What are you doing hiding that beautiful face from me?"
"Stop that," she giggled at me, "you always have to say things like that so I blush, don't you? You like it when I blush, don't you."
"It's not my fault if blushing adds to your beauty," she rolled her eyes at me and walked away, shaking her head.
"Serioulsy," she said with a laugh, "you can't stop!" I laughed myself and when I turned to look at Selena, she had a smirk on her face.
'What?' I mouthed to her, curious as to what the look was for.
'Nothing,' she mouthed back to me, her smirk increasing when she caught me glancing at Rachel. I then got what she meant and mouthed to her again.
'Shut up,' I glared at her playfully and she made kissing faces back. Stepping closer to Selena, I wrapped my arms around her and threw her over my shoulder, carrying her in circles on the stage.
"Nicholas, put me down now!" Selena shouted at me, while hitting my back with her fist. I couldn't help but laugh as I finally set her down on the ground, her hair messed up and the look on her face priceless. "Oh, I am so getting you back!" Rachel started laughing with us, making it feel like it was old times again, before everything happened. Back to months before, when life was good and heartbreak was something that never crossed my mind. When I was with Demi and life wasn't just good, but perfect. Perfect, unlike it was now, though slowly, I'll get it back to that way. Life will go back to the way it was with Demi.

Chapter Six
Nick's POV:
As it came to that time again where I found myself on stage, no guitar in hand and not sitting at the piano, I looked out into the audience hopeful. Just the night previous, without knowing, Demi was standing out there watching me. She was there as I stood clutching the microphone stand, singing my heart out to all the fans. I heard the taps of the drumsticks as they counted off the band, the sound of the guitars, keyboard, and drums filling my ears. My voice rang out into the mic and out the speakers, echoing throughout the stadium as I sang. The song came to the chorus and for some reason I looked out to the spot I pointed at earlier, smiling when I saw Rachel swaying her arm in the air to the song. My eyes scanned around in the crowd, wanting to see her somewhere out there. Selena stayed backstage for this show, wanting the backstage experience since every other one she went to, she was out in the audience. I looked back to her, giving her a smile and nod, which she returned and they pointed out. I furrowed my eyebrows slightly, confused at what she was pointing at.
When I followed to where she was poiting, my eyes spotted a certain person standing there. At first, I was sligtly dissapointed, knowing it wasn't who I wanted to see. I looked harder, peering through all the people in the way, and that's when I saw her. My eyes had first caught my brother Joe, standing next to Kevin. When I finally looked though, I noticed who was standing on the other side of Joe; Demi. A smile formed on my lips as I reached the second verse, looking straight into that direction as I sang the lines.
"Beautiful, one of a kind,
you're something special, babe,
you don't even realize,
that you're my heart's desire,
all that I want and more,"
Now that she knew who the song was written about, I wanted her to really listen as I sang the song. The lyrics were the message I wanted to get across to her. Demi was all I wanted; she meant my whole life to me.
"I know you're scared,
but I promise, babe,
I'm not who I was before,"
Scared; fear that I would never remember all our memories was one of the things that broke us up those months before. Even though I had told her that I remembered, it wasn't enough to get her back. Her fear still remained; she was afraid it would never be the same. I had changed though; I was no longer that clueless boy from four months ago. Time also changed a person and time helped me realize that if I could, I'd go back to the beginning and make things right. The second part of the chorus said,
"Now that the pain is done,
there's no need to be afraid,
we don't have time to waste,
just tell me that you'll stay,"
Demi and I had gone through all the pain of my memory loss and gaining it back, if we could last through that, we could last through this break up we were going through. That was the past and we could move on from it, there was no need to be afraid of it anymore. Life moved fast and time kept moving, before we know it, we'll both be adults and that's when life matters, we didn't have time to waste. As I sang through the song, glancing around the audience and putting my passion into the song, I looked back towards where Demi was for the final line.
"Tell me, you're gonna, stay,"
Everytime I sang that line, I thought back to when we broke up. In that moment, all I wanted was for Demi to stay and talk about it with me. Instead, she got in her car and drove away. Every night that I sang that line, I wanted Demi to come and find me, hold me like we'll never let go, and her whisper in my ear, "I'm gonna stay, Nick." There were just dreams, ones of the many I had about her when I closed my eyes to sleep. Demi was always the only thing on my mind as I lay to sleep, thinking of the times when I'd fall asleep as I held her close to me. We once wrote,
"Give us time to grow,
and take it slow,"
I wanted to fix things this time, which meant taking it slower than we did the first time. We jumped into the relationship fast and we shouldn't have. Time has gone by since then, we've slowly grown. I'll be turning 18 this year and so will she, which is when we can decide how serious we are about each other. If she feels the same when too at that time, then adulthood would lead us to the next step of a relationship. That was something I often dreamed about when she popped into my head.
I'd do anything just to run of the strange, find her and just be with her right now. Hold onto her like I wanted to everyday and kissed her with so much passion, it left her breathless.
"But I'd stop the world,
if it'd finally let us be alone,"

Chapter Seven
Nick's POV:
"Nick," a voice shouted into my dressing room backstage, as I was wiping the dripping sweat off my forehead with a small towel. I turned towards the door, trying to see who had just entered, to see a smiling, bright blonde, blur attach herself to my waist. Acting quickly, I pulled her arms from around me and moved back with a laugh.
"You don't want to hug me right now. I'm all sweaty and gross." She giggled a little, crossing her arms over her chest as she smiled at me.
"I don't mind; I just thought you deserved a hug after that amazing performance. Plus, some girls think guys look hott when their sweaty," she added a wink at the end and stepped closer to me. "Not that I do that is." I threw the towel onto a nearby chair and took the step that was between Rachel and I, bringing us closer together.
"You wouldn't have brought it up otherwise. Just admit it and I won't force it out of you." She raised her eyebrow at me, taking a step back to create space.
"And how exactly do you plan on 'forcing it out of me'?" A smirk played on her lips as she continued to step backwards and I went forward. She let out a squeel when her back hit against one of the walls and she placed her hands in front of her, trying to push me away. When her hands finally made contact with my chest, I grabbed onto them pulling them down to our sides. A playful smile was on her face as I moved my forehead against hers, my golden brown eyes staring into her ocean grey ones. Rachel moved her hands from mine, moving them by my neck, holding onto the collar of my button-up I was wearing. I moved my face to her shoulder, leaning into her slightly.
"You smell really good, while I probably smell discusting right now." I felt her body shake as she laughed, pushing me up to look at me.
"Believe me when I say you've smelled better. But, I've smelled much worse than what you smell like currently. My brother's room is always atrocious and I swear pigs must live in there." A sweet laugh emitted from her light pink lips, and I moved my hands on the wall on each side of her small frame. Her laugh stopped shortly, her gentle eyes glowing up at me. We both stood there for a moment, our eyes having their own conversation, until a knock was heard at the door. I jumped back instantly, pulling Rachel with me unknowingly, and started falling back as my foot met with the corner of a chair and the door was opening. My eyes were covered by yellow darkness and I realized I had brought Rachel with me when I fell, causing her to fall onto me.
"I hope I'm not interupting anything important," a loud, yet soft, voice spoke at the door. I knew the voice and moved a little, trying to look to the door where I knew Selena was standing. Looking back to Rachel, our eyes met and we instantly started laughing, Rachel placing her hands by my sides on the floor, trying to push herself up. She stuck her hand out to help me up with her, brushing her clothes off after letting go of my hand.
"What did you need Sel?" I asked, rubbing the back of my neck and looking her way.
"I just came back to say good job and that you're brothers and Demi said they'll be coming back once the show was over. I assume the rest of your family is around here somewhere too." I nodded my head at her, taking a quick glance at Rachel to see her expression. She had met my family and they absolutely adored her, so I knew the uncomfortable look on her face wasn't because of them. Selena had also mentioned a certain someone would also be coming and that person knew nothing about Rachel, even though Rachel knew so much about her.
I'm not entirely sure what you'd call the relationship Rachel and I have, but whatever it is, meeting my ex-girlfriend for the first time could never be wonderful; especially when she knows I still love my ex.

Chapter Eight
Nick's POV:
"Speak of the devil," Selena's voice brought my attention to the door as Joe emerged, smiling crazily.
"Nick, that was fantastic!" he spoke, coming to me and giving me a pat on the back and raising his hand for a high-five, which I returned.
"That song you wrote for Dani and I was quite beautiful," Kevin said as he walked into the room, ruffling my curls a little when he got to me. I glanced to the doorway, waiting for Demi to walk in any moment, but she didn't. My brothers seemed to understand and Joe put his hand on my shoulder, making me look to him.
"Demi was just talking to Dad out there, she'll be in soon, don't worry." I payed no attention to Joe, instead focusing on the door, waiting to see her appear. Movement next to me snapped my attention to Rachel, who stood awkwardly in her light blue, knee-length dress with a yellow half-jacket, her fingers twisting her blonde hair. A blur of black caught my attention next, as my eyes searched for the dark brown eyes of the black, strapless dress wearing woman walking through the door. A smile played on her lips and when I finally saw those dark orbs looking right at me, I saw it falter a moment, before she smiled even wider.
"That's was crazy, Nick." She spoke quietly, keeping her eyes on me. I opened my mouth to say something, but my brain wouldn't function. Before I knew what I was doing, my hand reached instinctively for Rachel's, knowing after yesterday, I'd need some support with being around Demi. I realized shortly of my doing so by the confused look on Demi's face and I tried to fix it.
"Demi, this is Rachel," I starting walking towards Demi, my heart beating faster with each step that got me closer to her, whilst dragging Rachel along with me. "Rachel, this is, of course, Demi Lovato." Though I thought maybe properly meeting might help things out a little, Rachel still looked uncomfortable about all of it. Though I couldn't be entirely sure, I was pretty sure it was the 'meeting of the ex-girlfriend of a guy who you're hopelessly in love with, while he's still in love with said ex'.
"It's nice to meet you, Rachel," Demi finally spoke up through the silence, trying to make some type of conversation. "I like your dress; it's so cute."
"Uhm, thanks," Rachel mumbled, pulling lightly at the hem of her dress, trying to avoid the conversation. "I like yours too." Sensing the tension in the air, Joe came over, asking Rachel if she was thirsty, hungry, or if there was anything, anything, she needed. After she left the room with him, Kevin followed out, speaking something about 'Dani', 'late', and 'kill' under his breath. I then realized they had all left, leaving only Demi and I.
"I'm, uh, glad that you liked the show." I finally said, hoping to start a conversation.
"I think the fans loved our song," she chose to say, making just breathing hard to do.
"Kevin liked it too, so, I guess we did pretty good with it." Demi shook her head and I heard her laugh fill my ears. That laugh-oh God that laugh-how I missed hearing it.
"I've always wondered how I have such deep, intellegent conversations with you sometimes, considering how badly you suck at talking around girls." I blushed a little, looking down at my feet instead of Demi.
"I guess it's just different around you," Demi gave me an curious look, clearly not understanding what I was saying.
"Different how, Nick?" I stared hard at the floor, as though I was trying to pierce a hole through it.
"We connect with eachother. That's one of the reasons I can be so normal around you; one of the reasons I fell for you so hard. You understand me."
"Nick, I-" Demi started, but stopped suddenly. I knew I said the wrong thing and made Demi uncomfotable. "Please try to just forget about me." I looked up at her now, a bitter laugh emitting from my lips.
"Forget about you? Demi, I could never. Even if you're not my girlfriend, then you're still my best friend. I told you yesterday I'd be friends like you want. I can do it, Dem."
"Nick, you obviously can't-"
"I can!" My raised voice made Demi flinch and she backed away slightly. "I'm sorry, it's just-trust me, okay? I'm trying my best to move on. I can't forget and I don't want you out of my life, so I'm going to move on. Will that work for you?" She looked at me for a minute with us in silence, before she finally spoke up to me.
"I want to be in your life too, but I need to know you will move on. You can't just pretend and then come up with some plan to make me fall for you. Like I told you yesterday, I don't-"
"Demi, don't say it-"
"I don't love you, Nick. You have to understand that for us to be friends. If I were to start dating somebody else, you can't do anything about it."
"What, like Adam? After all that's happened with him, you went out on a date?" Demi shook her head and started for the door.
"See what I'm talking about? Whatever choices I make, you have no say in, Nick. It's been three months, Nick. Why can't you just forgive and forget?"
"Forgive and forget? I'm supposed to just forgive for everything he's done?"
"Yes, Nick, you are! You're supposed to for me." Demi turned away from me and was now at the door. "I don't know why it matters so much to you about me going on a date. Clearly you have moved on or else you wouldn't have yourself a new girlfriend." Demi went to walk out the door, but I moved to her before she could and grabbed her arm.
"Stop it, okay? Rachel isn't my girlfriend, because I'm too in love with you. I haven't moved on because it is the hardest thing to do. It's hard to let someone as perfect as you in my life just slip away from me when you're right in my arms. I know that somewhere, deep down, you love me back, but you're too scared to admit it. For you, I will do everything I can to move on and let you go, being only your friend and not fighting for you. But I refuse to forgive him of anything, even for you."
"Fine, don't forgive him. But, Nick, he's my friend. If you're going to be my friend, then know that you'll have to be around him. He's forgiven you-"
"What did I ever do to him?"
"It takes two to tango, Nick. You antagonised eachother. I'll let you be my friend Nick, because I do-not-love-you. Get that into that thick head of yours, okay?" She pulled her arm from my grip, glaring as she walked out of the room. Before she got to far, she stopped and turned back around to me. "Rachel may not be your girlfriend, Nick, but I see the way she looks at you. But, before you go saying it's only her, you have feelings too. The first thing you did when I walked in was grab her hand, because she made you feel like everything was going to be okay. Obviously, you've gotten very close to her and she makes you feel comfortable. You love her, deep down, but you're just too scared to admit it." With that, she walked off, ending the argument once again by using my own words against me.
