I Just Need you Now // Nemi One-Shot
Based off the song "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum.
Since the young age of just four, Nick and Demi had been the closest of friends. Their closeness never seemed to fade and 12 years later they finally realized the feelings they had for eachother. They were one of those 'on/off' couples that broke up and got back together constantly. No matter how many times they fought and broke up, there was no denying of the love they shared for one another. The pattern finally ended when Nick proposed to her when they were 19. It proved they would always love eachother and it was time to stop the fighting and breaking up. It seemed to work for the next two years. Now they could focus on their future instead of the present, making their life together more pleasant.
On the day of their anniversary, Demi stood in the kitchen making Nick's favorite for dinner. She glanced at the clock, wondering when he'd finally be home. He called three hours ago saying he had something at work and he'd try to get home as soon as possible. She heard the door open and his footsteps in the house, making her smile. She rushed out to meet him, giving him a huge hug. "I'm so glad you finally got here." She said.
"Sorry, I'm so late, Dem." Nick said to her. He brought his hand from behind his back, showing a bouquet of roses. "I got these for you."
"Aw, it's wonderful, Nick. Thank you." She took the bouquet from him and sniffed the aroma of the roses. She walked into the kitchen and put them in a vase, handing it to Nick to put on the table. "Dinner's almost done and I made your favorite." He gave her a smile and kissed her forehead.
"How did I manage to find the perfect woman?" Demi giggled a little and wrapped her arms around Nick's neck. She rested her head on his chest, while his arms went around her waist. She inhaled his wonderful scent of vanilla, smiling a little. Her smile soon faded and she backed up from him. Why would a guy smell like vanilla? "What's wrong, baby?"
"Nick, where were you all this time?"
"I told you, I had things going on with work."
"Don't even lie to me. You were with another girl, weren't you?"
"The only another girl I was around was a co-worker."
"So you're cheating on me with your co-worker?!"
"I'm not cheating on you!"
"Then why else would you smell like vanilla perfume, Nicholas?!"
"Because-" He stopped for a second, trying to think of just what to say.
"I knew it. I'm leaving."
"Demi, don't go. I promise I'm not."
"How can you lie right to my face?" She shook her head and slipped her ring off her left hand. "Here," she threw it on the ground in front of him, "I won't be needing that anymore."
"Demetira, please don't do this." She held her head up high and walked out the door, slamming it behind her. Nick ran out the door after her, stopping on the steps as he watched her car drive down the street. He fell to his knees, knowing he just screwed up majorly. How was he going to fix this? He stood up, walking inside and closing the door. He grabbed the ring from the floor and walked into the kitchen. He let out a sigh, grabbing an oven mit to get the now partially burned steak from oven. Looks like he'd be eating alone now. Going to the fridge, he started to grab out the wine they had for tonight, but ended up putting it back. Instead, he got into one of the cupboards and grabbed out a bottle of whiskey, placing it on the counter in front of him. After pouring some into a glass, he let out a sigh and drank it down quickly. "So much for no more fights." Nick grabbed the bottle and glass, taking it into the living room with him. He sat on the floor against the wall, facing the front door. She'd come back and he knew it. He'd wait weeks, months, even years, for her to come back. He loved her and that would never change. He filled another glass, drinking it down. He'd wait forever for her.
Demi wasn't sure where she would go, but she knew she had to get away from him. How could he do something like that to her? She felt her eyes sting and blinked her eyes, not wanting tears to fall. He wasn't worth it, he was a lying, cheating, amazing, caring, handsome..what was she doing? He just broke her heart and here she is listing off how wonderful he is. She pulled the car over and rested her head on the steering wheel, the tears falling no matter how hard she tried not to. she flipped down the visor above her, pictures falling down into her lap. A gasp was let out of her lips when she looked at them, discovering just what they were. Pictures of her and Nick from previous years of DisneyWorld. They'd always go every single year and get a picture with one of the characters. Some were with Disney Princesses, others with Mickey and his gang. The remembrance of the photos being there must have slipped from her mind for awhile. Vibrations from her phone started to buzz loudly against the leather of the passanger seat and she turned to look towards it. The name that appeared was exactly what she expected, hitting the ignore button to let it go to voicemail. How could he do this to her? After everything they've been through, he decided to cheat on her? So, they've had some fights here and there, but if he didn't love her, he couldn't just say it to her face? Demi could handle the fact of him cheating; she couldn't handle him lying about it to her face. When the message had been left on her phone, it indicated a beep, getting Demi's attention. Her mind tried to decided whether to listen or not, deciding just to ignore it. Letting out a loud sigh, she turned the car back on and started driving again. Maybe she could go to a friend's house for the night while this all blew over. They could talk about their relationship tomorrow, when it wasn't their anniversary.
Nick could no longer take it anymore and caved, grabbing his phone and dialing her number. After a few rings it switched to her voicemail, just like he knew it would. He let out a deep sigh, hearing the beep. "Demi, listen, just let me try to explain? I swear to you, I would never cheat. I know we've always had our ups and downs, but, baby, it'd never result to me doing anything with another woman. You're the only one I love and I'll ever love. Come home, Demi, please. I need to know that you're safe and I just need you. You mean everything to me and without you I'd die. Please, come back. I need you so bad, Demetria. Please. I love you." He hung up the phone and layed it next to him, hoping he'd get a call back. Nick stared at the clock, watching as time continued on.When the clock finally clicked to 1:15am, he could no longer take it. He stood up and slipped on a jacket, before walking out of the house. Knowing her so well, he knew exactly where she'd go. It had started to rain outside, so he pulled his jacket on tigher and continued to walk. Hearing footsteps in front of him, he looked up to see another person. "You came back?!" He yelled through the rain.
"I got your voicemail!" she returned, "Try explaining to me!"
"I didn't cheat on you!" He took some steps forward, getting closer to her. "I was telling my co-worker all about you! How today was our anniversary and I was going to get flowers after work! She told me girls like it when you smell nice and then doused me in her perfume! She was just playing around, I swear! I'd never be with another girl behind your back! I love you and I don't want to hurt you!"
"Don't lie to me, Nick!"
"I'm not lying! I swear! I want to be with you now and forever!" He walked farther, closing the distance between them. Grabbing a strand of hair, he tucked it behind her ear. "I want you to be my wife and mother of my children. When I'm old and about to die, I want you to be the woman next to me, holding my hand. Just like The Notebook, I want to die holding you in my arms. You are my life. I love you, Demetria Devonne Lovato." She started to smile and wrapped her arms around Nick's neck.
"I love you too, Nicholas Jerry Jonas."
